Roy Rappaport papers, 1961-1985.

Correspondence, writings, field notes, linguistic materials, photographs and audiorecordings collected or created during Rappaport's fieldwork with the Tsembaga, a Maring-speaking people in Papua New Guinea. The fieldwork for 1962-1963, conducted as part of the Columbia University Expedition, is largely concerned with ritual and human ecology, and it became the source material for Rappaport's Columbia University Ph. D. The field work for 1981-1982 is more concerned with the acculturation of the Tsembaga people. Some of the Maring linguistic materials were either collected and/or organized by Rapport's wife Ann.
